Friendship is a precious commodity that can seem scarce as we get older, especially if you’re living alone.
Our visiting befriending service can step in when family or friends are not around. It is a high quality volunteer home visiting service ideally for people who live alone in the Walton-on-Thames, Hersham, Woking or Weybridge areas.
Any Old Irons, part of our Football Friends programme with West Ham United Foundation celebrates and explores the club’s rich history, and gives older people the opportunity to reconnect over their love of football.
I saw Any Old Irons advertised and being a West Ham United F.C. fan I thought I’ll go for that and it’s been beyond my wildest dreams. Made to feel at home and made to feel good about myself. I retired about 12 weeks ago and I was thinking about getting involved in walking football because I started to get bored being at home, so when I saw the programme I thought I’d like to get involved and I’ve enjoyed it very much. West Ham is my team – I’ve been coming here since I was six. Even though I’m a pensioner now you go back to being a young boy again and that’s what football does.
