Friends of the Elderly Delighted with Royal Reception

Representatives from several Friends of the Elderly homes and services recently enjoyed a reception with Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh at the State Apartments at St James’s Palace in London.

A group of residents and day club users from Friends of the Elderly homes and clubs in Coulsdon, Malvern and Colchester travelled to London, to St James’s Palace, which was built by Henry VIII in 1532 and scene of Queen Victoria’s wedding in 1840.

Friends of the Elderly Chairman, Kerry Rubie, and Chief Executive, Richard Furze, brought Her Majesty up-to-date with the work of the national charity, of which she is patron, before the Royal party were introduced to some of the 500 invited guests. To round the evening off, Miss Marion Tickner, of the Sir Thomas Lipton home in Southgate, presented Her Majesty with a bouquet of flowers.

Reginald Willis of Selkirk Wing at Woodcote Grove in Coulsdon said of the event, “I was fortunate enough to meet Her Majesty The Queen on the night. It was simply a fantastic evening”.

Friends of the Elderly will also welcome another Royal guest in December when their President, HRH Princess Alexandra, visits the central office and joins the annual Christmas Carol Service.
