Charity President Princess Alexandra calls for Covid update

Princess Alexandra on the phone to our Chief Executive and Chair of the Board

Our Charity President Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra, The Honourable Lady Oglivy, joined a phone call with Kerry Rubie, Chair of the Board and Steve Allen, our Chief Executive. She spoke to them at length to learn more about how we are managing our COVID-19 response.

During the call Princess Alexandra, Kerry Rubie and Steve Allen discussed the wellbeing of our care and support staff and volunteers. They have been at the front-line of our services during the pandemic.

Princess Alexandra also enquired after the residents of our care homes during this exceptionally difficult time, including issues such as Personal Protective Equipment, testing for COVID-19, and infection prevention and control measures. This was followed by discussions about our role in supporting older people to remain independently in their own homes through our home care and volunteer visiting services, as well as grants given out to older people in financial difficulty.

The conversation followed the annual report to Her Royal Highness on our progress, which included how our teams are working to keep residents of our care homes in regular contact with family, friends, and the outside world. This included updates on our #MessageOfSupport campaign.

Kerry Rubie said: “We are thrilled to have received such wonderful support from Princess Alexandra.

“Friends of the Elderly has worked hard to ensure that the users and beneficiaries of our services, and our wonderful staff are as safe as possible over these challenging few months and we greatly appreciated being able to update our President about our work in detail.”
