Commitment: two-three hours per month, flexible

We organise regular events in sheltered housing schemes across the Elmbridge and Woking areas. Our events are often the only opportunity for the people who live in the schemes to get together and they aim to alleviate loneliness, build confidence and create friendships. We provide services that are person-centred and allow older people to live full and dignified lives.

We are looking for volunteers who want to make a real difference. By supporting other volunteers in setting up a monthly event for the residents, you can transform someone’s day.

About the opportunity

Friends of the Elderly organises regular events in sheltered housing schemes across the Elmbridge and Woking areas.

Each event should last two hours, with an additional hour for set-up and tidy-up.

We need volunteers to host activities, chat to guests, serve refreshments and create a warm and friendly atmosphere for the residents of the scheme who attend our monthly events.  Help us deliver a fun-filled morning or afternoon activity using the prepared activities found in our Activities Library, ensuring everyone feels welcome and involved.

  • Enjoy talking and listening to older people.
  • Have empathy and understand the needs of older people.
  • Are warm, friendly and outgoing.

  • Have good organisational skills.
  • Work well with others.
  • Would like to make a real difference to an older person’s life.
