Howbury Lodge Day Centre
Person-centred day care for older people with a diagnosis of dementia and living in their own homes, is provided 5 days per week for up to 10 people per day from Howbury Lodge. This is a unique 3-way partnership between Friends of the Elderly, Health and Social Services and referrals are accepted from each agency .The service commenced in February of this year and funding has been provided by WCC.
Howbury Lodge is a purpose built unit within Howbury Resource Centre in Pickersleigh Grove, Malvern and adjacent to the Friends of the Elderly Day Care unit is a Dementia Respite unit, which forms part of a ‘package’ of care for people with dementia from Malvern District. Those attending Howbury Lodge Day Care may also be receiving respite at the Dementia Unit next door.
Transport is provided by WCC and arrives at Howbury Lodge around 10am. A varied, sensitively planned programme of activities, provide each member with opportunity for social interaction and stimulation – this is tailored to the individual by caring, trained staff. An enclosed garden has recently provided hours of enjoyment for some members and the fruits of their work are now blossoming. A meal is provided at lunch time and refreshments throughout the day. When available, up to 2 days of day care can be provided through referrals and assessment of need. The day finishes around 3pm when the bus arrives to take people home.
Just recently a member reached the grand age of 100yrs with fellow members decorating the room with their own art work in celebration. Some of the members have been known to Friends of the Elderly staff for some time, due to them attending Geraldine Court Day Club and Alexander Gardens Day Centre which has now closed.
