The Lawn, Alton Hants - Residential care home
Once the home of Victorian novelist Elizabeth Gaskell, "The Lawn" residential home in Holybourne near Alton is registered to provide care for 30 residents. Blending tranquillity and peace, the original listed Georgian building leads to a modern extension where all rooms feature charming views of the garden's extensive lawns that run down to a picturesque stream.
At the heart of the scenic village
The home is at the heart of the scenic village of Holybourne, near the village shop, public house and 7th century church. The Lawn has a very active local volunteer support group which organises functions, tea parties, pub lunches, history and art talks and visits to places of interest which all help new residents establish roots in the local community.
Feel at home
Our bed-sitting rooms are fully furnished and most have en-suite bathrooms. Every room is fitted with a television point and telephone socket, giving additional privacy and choice.
Fresh food choices
All food is freshly prepared by our cooks, and residents can choose from our varied menus for their main meal at lunchtime, plus a hot supper in the evening. Light snacks are always available and the homemade cakes are justly popular. All meals are served in the large dining room or, if the resident prefers, in their own room.
Activities and interests
At The Lawn there is a spacious, elegantly furnished drawing-room with a welcoming fireplace for winter comfort. The home also has a well-stocked library, including large-print books. We have a beauty room where local hairdressers, manicurists and chiropodists visit regularly.
Exercise classes, competitions, quizzes, crafts and a film club
In our activities area, our Activities Organiser encourages residents to become involved in the many social activities on offer; exercise classes, competitions, quizzes, crafts and a film club. Weekly services are held in The Lawn's own chapel, conducted by local clergy, to which all residents are warmly invited. In the warmer weather, the terrace area overlooking the gardens is particularly popular and involvement in the gardens is encouraged.
Excellent staff care
Our professional staff all attend regular training to ensure that they provide an excellent standard of care. Staff assist with bathing, dressing and all the activities of daily life, as required. A call system operates in all rooms and communal areas, giving residents peace of mind that they can summon help at any time, day or night. Routine medical services are provided by a local GP, who also provides emergency cover.

To Find The Lawn
Take the A31 Farnham to Alton road. At the second roundabout after Farnham, take the second exit-sign posted to Alton and Holybourne. Proceed a very short distance towards Alton and then turn right sign-posted Holybourne Village. The Lawn is on the right-hand side about half a mile down the road before the pub called The White Hart.
