Care Homes: Sherwood House

Sherwood House,

A lovely home in attractive, mature grounds

Sherwood House is an imposing former family home, which has been converted and refurbished to a high standard to provide residential care for older people.

The house is situated in Linby, a quiet rural area just three miles from the town of Hucknall and eight miles from Nottingham city centre.  Formerly the family home of the late Miss Evelyn Gray, Sherwood House has been converted with an additional wing, providing residential care for 19 older people.  The house is set in extensive, well maintained grounds with a sensory garden.

The sitting room at Sherwood House

Feel at home

The 19 spacious and well furnished bed sitting rooms all have ensuite facilities, and are provided with a TV point and telephone socket.  Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with small items of furniture, pictures and photographs to make them feel at home.  Communal rooms include two inviting lounges, a light and airy dining room, and a conservatory overlooking the lovely landscaped garden.   The building has a lift to the first floor.

Fresh food choices

All food is freshly prepared by our cooks, and residents can choose from our varied menus for their main meal at lunchtime, plus a hot supper in the evening.  Light snacks are always available and the homemade cakes are justly popular.  All meals are served in the pleasant dining room, or if the resident prefers, in their own room.  There is also a pantry available for residents to prepare their own refreshments or snacks.

Individual care plans

Whenever a new resident joins us, we prepare an individual care plan with them and their relatives, to encourage independence and inclusion.  The plan covers personal care, diet, activities and hobbies, and all aspects of how we can make their stay enjoyable and comfortable.

Excellent staff care

Our professional staff all attend regular training to ensure that they provide an excellent standard of care.  Staff assist with bathing, dressing and all the activities of daily life, as required.  A call system operates in all rooms and communal areas, giving residents peace of mind that they can summon help at any time, day or night.  Routine medical services are provided by a local GP, who also provides emergency cover.

Activities and interests

Sherwood House has two communal lounges for residents to enjoy, each with a television, while outside in the picturesque grounds there is a lovely sensory garden. The home features a hairdressing room and a local hairdresser visits every week.  An Activities Organiser encourages residents to become involved in the many social activities on offer, which include bingo, exercise classes, discussions, and arts and crafts.   A Church of England service is conducted on the first Tuesday of every month, to which all residents are warmly invited.

Warm, friendly atmosphere

Friends of the Elderly’s homes provide a warm, friendly atmosphere and a truly caring environment.  Family and friends are always welcome, and can stay for lunch or dinner, or overnight in our guest accommodation.  There is a happy community spirit enhanced by regular get-togethers for pre-lunch drinks and other events.  In the warmer weather, the garden is well used and popular with residents.  Residents are encouraged to get involved in tending the garden if they would like to do so.  Our residents are treated with dignity and friendly courtesy, and we never forget that this is their home.
