Triangle Day Care Woking, located in Smiles Place off Lavender Road, celebrated its first birthday on Wednesday (4 October) with music from Mac Entertainment and a buffet. The party took place just a couple of days after International Day of Older People – a day to celebrate the older generations and to bring people together.
Triangle Day Care Woking is run by Triangle Community Services, a subsidiary organisation of registered charity Friends of the Elderly. The service is staffed by a highly-trained team supported by a group of caring volunteers. Since the day care service was launched it has gone from strength to strength with a total of 74 service users using it each week. Every week day there are a range of group and one-to-one activities on offer and hearty, healthy food served throughout the day. The service is a lifeline for older people who might otherwise just spend their time home alone. The staff at Triangle Woking are also trained to support those living with dementia and creating a safe environment for these people to spend time in.
Winifred Montague, a service user at Triangle Day Care Woking, said: “It’s party time! I’ve had a great day – the food was fantastic and I had a good dance too!”
Francesca Simpson, Manager of Triangle Day Care Woking, said: “We are one! Thank you so much to all of our service users and volunteers for their ongoing support during our first year. We really are like a little family. The party was a great success – it was fantastic to see so many smiling faces to celebrate our first birthday. Here’s to many more years providing the older people of Woking a safe and welcoming place to come together.”
The party was also attended by ten guests from the Visiting Friends befriending scheme. Visiting Friends joined the party to mark the move of the service from Friends of the Elderly to Triangle Community Services. There will be no change in the way the service is operated and will be run by the same team. The scheme offers one-to-one befriending, hosts events at sheltered housing sites in Woking and the surrounding areas and organises outings for beneficiaries all with the support of volunteers. By sitting under the Triangle Community Services arm of Friends of the Elderly Group, even more older people can be supported with much needed friendship and companionship and will complement the home care and day care services of Triangle.
