On Saturday, 22 July, staff, residents and volunteers welcomed members of the community to our Retired Nurses National Home (RNNH) in Bournemouth for an afternoon of family-friendly fun.
There were opportunities to be shown around the care home, plus stalls providing information about working or volunteering at RNNH.
Jan Broughton, 70, worked in catering at RNNH for over ten years. When she retired two years ago, she decided to become a volunteer. Jan told us: “I’ve always really enjoyed talking to residents and having their company – they have done such interesting things with their lives.”
The rain didn’t put people off, but it meant that some of the activities had to be moved indoors – including performances by the Wessex Majorettes and the ‘Creature Teachers’ animal petting area.
Residents and visitors enjoyed getting to know each other over homemade cream teas and other refreshments.
