Donations and Support

Legacies are crucial to the work of Friends of the Elderly because they represent 50% of our voluntary income. If you leave a gift in your Will to us, you will be helping vulnerable older people in the future.

Quite recently, Friends of the Elderly was left £100,000 by a Miss Inskip , who lived in Hove. She very kindly left 1/8th of the residuary of her estate. The residuary is what is left after the commitments and pecuniary legacies have been paid. A pecuniary legacy is a fixed amount of money.

Miss Inskip’s legacy was exceptionally large and certainly not the size we usually receive. However, legacies big or small are most welcome and are vital to our future work.

Friends of the Elderly manage a Welfare and Grant Giving service for vulnerable older people in financial need. We provide one off or ongoing grants and we also supply items they might need. Currently the costs of some of the items we provide are:

Quilt, bedding and a set of pillows - £50

Washing machine - £250

Cooker, fridge and microwave - £500

New, secure front door - £750

Replace 4 rotten windows with new double-glazing - £1,000

Update central heating system providing heat and hot water - £2,500

Provide bathroom adaptations such as a level access shower - £5,000

If you leave Friends of the Elderly a legacy it will be put to good use to help vulnerable older people.
