Friends of the Elderly’s Home Support Services provide practical help and emotional support to vulnerable older people in their own homes. Through these services we enable people to continue to live independently and improve their quality of life. We give priority to people with dementia, confusion and depression.
To ensure that we only help those who are most in need, the services take referrals from professional agencies only. These include Community Psychiatric Nurses, Specialist Workers for Older People and local branches of the Alzheimer’s Society.
Our staff help older people with day-to-day activities, both practical and social. Our commitment to person-centred support ensures that it is the older person themselves who decides on the tasks or activities on each visit. This encourages the older person to make choices, which in turn, help them to remain independent.
“I look forward to the weekly visits. It’s more than just help around the house, it’s a friend coming to call.”
Each Home Support worker is matched with an older person and encouraged to form a trusting, friendly relationship. A caring relationship can improve a person's well-being enormously and add to their quality of life.
We currently operate our Home Support Services in Malvern, Woking and the London Borough of Sutton.
